Origami - The art of paper folding

The history of origami

The art of paper folding is called, in Japanese, "Origami".
The art of origami was developed by the Japanese, and allows
the folding of various forms, without cutting or glueing.
Paper folding for pleasure started on the 17th century; The 2-dimensional
paper turned into a 3-dimensional form.
The paperfolding tradition was passed from generation to generation,
and over the years became a part of the childrens' education.

The basic sheet of paper to start folding with is square, accurately cut
and colored on one side. The thickness and quality of the paper have an
effect on the final result.
Many educational institutes in Japan, Europe and the USA have found
origami to be helpful with the development of variuos skills.

A fun, colorful process, which produces a physical object, has turned,
from a childrens' hobby, to a creative art form, which poses challenges
to mathematicians, engineers, scientists and designers, who try
their hand at creating new models.
